Yikes (and WOW)! A seriously great Sparkling Nebbiolo rose from Barolo legend Ettore Germano. The grapes are specifically picked early for great acidity and freshness. Aged in stainless (80%) and old barriques (20%). 16 months on the lees. This is a dry, delicious, complex wine perfect as an aperitif or paired with salmon. $34 and in stock. #renegadewines #santabarbara #winenerd #sb #sommlife #winetasting #wineporn #seesb #trustyourpalate #montecito #sbcwine #seriousjuice #winetime #winegeeks #winewednesday #funkzone #centralcalifornia #foodiesofsb #zagat #sommelier #805

Comando G

Posted in Uncategorized on 29 May 2018 by stephen wayne

Fernando García & Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi are the founders of this Spanish winery Comando G. For over 10 years they’ve been tracking down lost and forgotten vineyards that were only legend, whispered about in taverns or in the fields after a night of drinking. This old vine Garnacha is lovely, with floral notes, and a chalky minerality. Tremendously elegant. In stock today and $26 a bottle. #renegadewines #santabarbara #winenerd #sb #sommlife #winetasting #wineporn #seesb #trustyourpalate #montecito #sbcwine #seriousjuice #winetime #winegeeks #winewednesday #funkzone #centralcalifornia #foodiesofsb #zagat #sommelier #805

Trocken? Really?

Posted in Uncategorized on 24 May 2018 by stephen wayne

Ok. A Spätlese that’s Trocken. We’re wrapping our minds around that. Then there’s the stony pepperiness in the wine; the bright matrix that engulfs you. The lingering finish that swims against logic. This is a brilliant bottle of $32 Riesling. Paired with spicy Wagyu rib eye tacos. The Riesling is in stock at Renegade. The tacos are gone. #renegadewines #santabarbara #winenerd #sb #sommlife #winetasting #wineporn #seesb #trustyourpalate #montecito #sbcwine #seriousjuice #winetime #winegeeks #winewednesday #funkzone #centralcalifornia #foodiesofsb #zagat #sommelier #805

Venice Lagoon

Posted in Uncategorized on 16 May 2018 by stephen wayne

Nearly one year to the day since we discovered this beautiful wine in a little seafood restaurant in Venice. And now, finally, it has arrived at Renegade. It’s made from the antique varietal Isterien Malvoise (D’Agata’s Native Wine Grapes of Italy has an comprehensive article on this varietal) on the island of San Erasmo in the middle of the Venice lagoon. High in mineral content, with bright salinity, but also a nice rich core that pairs well with seafood. This incredibly unique was is available ($34) now. #renegadewines #santabarbara #winenerd #sb #sommlife #winetasting #wineporn #seesb #trustyourpalate #montecito #sbcwine #seriousjuice #winetime #winegeeks #winewednesday #funkzone #centralcalifornia #foodiesofsb #zagat #sommelier #805

Vienna Memories

Au Natural

Posted in Uncategorized on 11 May 2018 by stephen wayne

Two of our favorite discoveries from Vienna have arrived. On the left: 2016 Christian Tschida’s White blend of weissburgunder & scheurebe. Foot crushed, indigenous yeast, no racking, fining, filtering. Zero sulphites. So, yes, this is a brilliant natural wine! ($46) 8 cases imported to the US. On the right: 2015 Maria & Sepp Muster Sauvignon. Much the same as above: hands off and let the wine do what the wine does. Only 5 cases imported this year ($38). Swing by and try these impressive bottles out. #renegadewines #santabarbara #winenerd #sb #sommlife #winetasting #wineporn #seesb #trustyourpalate #montecito #sbcwine #seriousjuice #winetime #winegeeks #winewednesday #funkzone #centralcalifornia #foodiesofsb #zagat #sommelier #805 #tschida #mariaandseppmuster

Foodie

Before the celebrity chefs, there were…well…celebrity chefs. Boston, 1793: Jean Baptiste Gilbert Payplat. Known for his restoring broths and soups. New Orleans, 1877: Elizabeth Kettering Bégué. Perhaps America’s first iconic breakfast spot. This books has over 100 biographies of influential chefs over the last 250 years. And most you’ve never heard of. Fascinating reading. Tonight, paired with Sancerre Rose. #renegadewines #santabarbara #winenerd #sb #sommlife #winetasting #wineporn #seesb #trustyourpalate #montecito #sbcwine #seriousjuice #winetime #winegeeks #winewednesday #funkzone #centralcalifornia #foodiesofsb #zagat #sommelier #805

The Lost Vines

Posted in Uncategorized on 9 May 2018 by stephen wayne

Les Clos Perdus = The Lost Vineyard. Tucked away throughout the hills and valleys of Languedoc are vineyards, many with old vines, that have been forgotten due to the inability to machine harvest or the low yields that come naturally to very old vineyards. Paul Old & Hugo Stewart spent years seeking these gems and in 2003 began making wine out of a modest garage. This wine is mostly 80-100 year old Grenache with some Mourvèdre thrown in. Red currant. Roasted herbs. Cracked pepper. Honest earth (we kid you not). An excellent $20 bottle of wine. #renegadewines #santabarbara #winenerd #sb #sommlife #winetasting #wineporn #seesb #trustyourpalate #montecito #sbcwine #seriousjuice #winetime #winegeeks #winewednesday #funkzone #centralcalifornia #foodiesofsb #zagat #sommelier #805
